A 2005 gmc yukon wouldn't be a bad thing to have in such a place, but it's also a great domestic partner for the warmer adventure of everyday living. smaller than the largest suvs, yet still indisputably full-sized, yukon is the right size for families that have something to tow. Its cabin is roomy, friendly and functional. It can carry a load of people and a mountain of cargo. It can pull heavy trailers, up to 7700 pounds, or 8100 in the case of the more powerful denali model. Yukon is smooth and stable on the road. Its advanced braking system works well. Turn off the highway and it handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud and snow. In any kind of driving, it's a great choice for someone who needs real carrying capacity. safety is enhanced by a tire-pressure monitor and sophisticated hydroboost brakes. Stabilitrak electronic stability control is now available on all models, as is onstar, upgraded for 2005 with enhanced hands-free capabilities. A new dvd-based touch-screen navigation system is also available. the yukon denali is a luxury version that adds a sumptuous interior, a bigger engine (with even more power for 2005), and full-time all-wheel drive. Yukon is wider and shorter than the envoy xl, giving it better stability in cornering and more comfortable accommodations for third-row occupants. yukon is conservatively styled. It looks like a shortened version of the yukon xl, which looks like a fancy suburban, which is what it is. Yukon's arched roofline provides extra headroom for the second- and third-row seats. denali is distinguished from other yukons by its aftermarket-inspired chrome grille, projector-beam headlamps, body-color bumpers, round fog lights, unique side cladding, 17-inch chromed wheels, and chromed exhaust tips. for 2005, all yukons come with a station wagon-style rear hatch that lifts up to open. The rear window can be opened separately for quick loading or unloading of smaller items. less noticeable changes for 2005 include an extended front air dam with fewer unneeded openings, and more aerodynamically friendly running boards. interiorthe yukon is comfortable and convenient. Getting inside is easy, thanks to pull-out style door handles. Step-in height is reasonable, making it relatively easy to climb into the driver's seat. the denali's leather upholstery looks and feels nice, and the shoulder harnesses fit well and are easy to wear because they are mounted on the seats. We sometimes had trouble getting comfortable in the big, cushy bucket seats, but owners seem to like them. Visibility out of the yukon is very good, thanks to large windows. second-row seating is roomy and comfortable. The bucket seats offer excellent support and can be adjusted individually. They almost feel more comfortable than the front seats. yukon's optional third-row seat provides space for adults' feet. It isn't a lot of space, but it is there. The third row folds, flips, slides and removes easily. Like most third rows, it's best for kids or occasional use. Getting into and out of that third-row seat isn't easy for adults. Climate controls and audio controls are easy to use yet are quite sophisticated in their operation. We enjoyed the denali's bose nine-speaker stereo with subwoofer. Rather than embedding the antenna in a window for fashion reasons, the yukon uses an external antenna for improved radio reception. the panasonic dvd passenger entertainment system 1,295) includes a seven-inch flip-down screen for second-seat passengers, plus two sets of wireless (infrared) headphones with independent volume control, a wireless remote control and three sets of auxiliary video and audio inputs. Gm's onstar security and information service works well as a navigation system because there's nothing to program. Press the button and a human operator responds, to provide directions and other assistance. The latest gen 6 version provides enhanced hands-free, voice-recognition capabilities, and more intuitive continuous digit dialing. safety starts with seat belts and is enhanced by dual-stage frontal airbags. Side-impact airbags are optional 350) on sle and slt, standard on denali. It even rides with impressive smoothness on bumpy rural byways that make some other suvs feel like pogo sticks. On smooth highways, the yukon cruises effortlessly. Handling is impressive and surefooted for a full-size suv. Yukon is stable at high speed. It's much easier to park then the longer yukon xl, but it's still a full-size truck and not as maneuverable as a mid-size suv such as the gmc envoy or ford explorer. the yukon is definitely a truck. It comes with a live rear axle supported by coil springs and located by five control links, an arrangement which provides a good compromise between ride/handling and cargo-carrying utility. Its front suspension is conventional in design, but uses torsion bars instead of coil springs to save. It seats five in a well-designed, nicely finished cabin, with state-of-the-art powertrains, advanced safety systems and convenience features, and class-leading fuel economy. the 2012 terrain represents its third year of production, and new for 2012 is a handful of upgrades, starting with a touch-screen audio system that adds a seven-inch hd video display to integrate several functions. There are also safety upgrades, including a better rearview camera and a new collision-alert system. technically a compact suv, the terrain crossover is nearly large enough to be considered mid-size sport-utility, with lots of space inside. Terrain competes with compacts such as the honda cr-v, toyota rav4 and ford escape, and midsize models such as the ford edge and nissan murano. terrain's most obvious strength might be its spacious, well-equipped cabin. The interior is comfortable, quiet and well isolated from the noise and chop of the roadway. Design and workmanship are quite good, and the new touch-screen monitor on the 2012 terrain reduces clutter. the gmc terrain shares its platform and mechanical components with the chevy equinox, but the two vehicles don't look much alike. A 3. 0-liter v6 is optional, rated at 264 hp, 222 pound-feet of torque and 17/24 mpg with front-wheel drive. The v6 increases towing capacity from 1500 to 3500 pounds, the latter enough for a light boat or a pair of personal watercraft or snowmobiles. Technically a compact, the terrain looks bigger. Its dimensions (and those of the equinox) come close to some mid-size suvs and crossovers. terrain measures 15 feet, 5 inches bumper to bumper, on a 112-inch wheel base. The distance between its wheel hubs is slightly longer than the wheelbase on the big ford explorer, and the terrain is slightly larger than the ford edge in most dimensions. Gmc engineers have used acoustic blankets between the engine and dash to minimize engine noise streaming into terrain's cabin. Acoustic laminated glass help manage wind noise, and the doors are triple-sealed for further quieting and efficient climate control. gmc is strictly a truck company, so the terrain has bolder styling with a larger, more distinctive grille than what's on the equinox. Especially when viewed from the front, the terrain's wide stance and high beltline leave a substantial, well-planted impression. terrain's body makes use of broad, sheer surfaces with a rectangular shape to the wheel wells. The side surfaces are clean, with chrome accents on the door handles and windows. Along the bottom of the exterior panels is a textured anti-chip layer of paint, conveying the message that the terrain could be functional in harsher environments, both urban and rural. A sleek roof rack provides additional cargo capacity. three wheel sizes and styles are available, including 17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels, and 19-inch chrome clad wheels. interiorthe gmc terrain makes a comfortable, versatile, flexible vehicle for families with two kids, or for couples with active lifestyles. Some interior improvements for 2012, starting with a standard touch-screen interface, make terrain even easier to live with, but it's not available with a third-row seat. All surfaces are soft and nicely grained. The interior space is open and relaxed, with lots of room to stretch in back. Seats are styled using a contrasting inset with exact red stitching. The dashboard is low and leans away from the front occupants, creating a generously spacious feel. the driver gets a high seating position, offering the same kind of vision and command of the road as traditional body-on-frame suvs. We found it has more than enough legroom for an average-size person, and it was easy to position the seat comfortably in relation to the steering wheel. Gmc says special attention was paid to accommodating shorter drivers. Interior designers worked extensively to optimize the accelerator pedal so the driving position could be close to ideal for a wider range of body types. the dash and controls are lighted in orange, with bright white instrument numerals. The interior lighting creates a well-lit, but not overly bright, nighttime environment. the floating center stack is positioned so that the most-used controls are within easy reach. It looks high-tech, but isn't overly complicated, and there's enough space for a center storage bin big enough for a laptop computer. The center console also has a tall, deep box, and that has two advantages. It makes a great armrest, and there's plenty of room to put things inside. Essentially, gmc is building all terrains with the hd screen for the navigation system, even if they're not equipped with navigation. For customers, this brings the added benefit of making the optional gps system much less expensive. The touch graphics look something like a cell phone, and they allow more functions to be integrated into the system. Onstar and xm satellite radio hardware are standard, with a six-month subscription to onstar and a three-month subscription to xm included. On the line topping s.
